YTU Hits the Headlines in UAV Contest in the USA

Yıldız Technical University Lagari Team placed 8th in Total Scores in the 16th AUVSI SUAS 2018 Competition (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Student Unmanned Aerial Systems Competition) in Maryland, the USA, which was sponsored by the US Army, Google, BAE Systems, MathWorks, etc.

Lagari Team, who beat the teams of Institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, UPenn, US Naval Academy, shot the target at 60 meters with 1 meter precision in the category of target shooting at autonomous flight, which is the best score in the history of the competition. In flight missions such as autonomous flight, target shooting, object identification and classification, Lagari Team placed 5th and placed 8th in the reporting and presentation missions among the 69 teams.

Lagari Team, who is sponsored by Yıldız Technical University, YTU TechnoPark, The Under secretariat for Defense Industries of the Republic of Turkey, TAI, Baykar Makina, T3 Foundation, Civil ve Doğtaş, is composed of the 8 sophomores, juniors and seniors of the Mechatronics Department of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and 1 junior of the Control and Automation Engineering Deparment of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The fixed wing UAV design and production work was made in YTU Mechatronics Engineering Laboratories and Baykar Makina Workshops by the Lagari Team who was mentored by Dr. Ahmet KIRLI, who is a faculty member of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, and whose UAV was piloted by Mehmet ÖZTEKİN
